District 6 Club Website Workshops

Get help making your club visible on the World Wide Web!

What is the format?

Workshops will be an open forum for getting help with your website. We will have experienced web editors on hand to help you get started. You can leave the workshop with a functioning website for your club (see How to Register below as you will need to have a URL obtained for your website prior to the workshop date.)

Why are we offering this?

Clubs that maintain an active published website are going to be noticed! Ask anyone who currently utilizes the Internet as a form of advertising, including other clubs throughout District 6. If you are online, you will have a greater chance of being found.

We believe that every club in the District should have a website. There are free tools available that can make this a reality. Even if your club is not open to everyone, it is still a good idea to publish at least a static page that tells visitors who you are and what the eligibility is to join. If you are a corporate club, a new employee might be searching for a club before they actually start their employment. By posting your club’s information online, visitors can find helpful information with just a simple click.

Who can join?

Ideally this is a great forum for club VP Public Relations or the assigned web editors. However if your club does not have a website or web editor, and you have an interest in getting your club online, you are encouraged to take that first step and join us!

When & Where?

We will hold the workshops on the third Saturday, every other month, from 1 to 4 pm beginning in August. Exact locations & maps will be posted at least one month in advance here on the D6 website. Our schedule is as follows (subject to change, so please continue to check the website).

Next session: February 21, Rochester, MN
Location TBD

Additional upcoming workshops (Exact locations TBD):
April 18: Twin Cities Metro

June 20: Twin Cities Metro

Note: June 20 will also be a time to recognize the volunteers who help throughout the year, and offer a chance for clubs to showcase their sites live!

How to Register

Registration is strongly encouraged, but not required. The advantage to pre-registering is that we can help you obtain your URL (website address) ahead of time so you can leave the workshop with a functioning website. To pre-register, please contact Jackie Doehling, 2008-2009 District 6 Public Relations Officer.

What to Bring

If you have access to a laptop with a wireless card, please bring it. We will try to have one or two available, but it will be first come first serve. Some locations may offer computers for use (libraries, for example) however they may not be available in the room where we meet. Also, bring a CD or flash drive with any photos, documents, etc that contain content you would like to load onto your website. If you know your club has a website but it has not been maintained in some time, be sure and find out any username and password information you need in order to access it and bring that along as well. If you have any questions on what to bring, contact us before the workshop date.

Ready to help?

If you have experience with creating or maintaining websites, and would like to help mentor others, we need you! Please contact us to sign up for one or more sessions. We need volunteers that have an interest in sharing their web knowledge and creative talents with others. You don’t need to prepare a presentation as the format is open. However if you have ideas for handouts, etc. to have on hand or post on our District 6 website, we welcome your input.

Please contact Jackie Doehling if you are able and willing to help!
