Servant Leadership

Servant Leadership is beautiful! Have you experienced it before? Serving others to empower themselves to develop and perform as highly as possible – to reach their full potential. This is how Toastmasters lead, as a servant leader. When I first joined Toastmasters, it was all about me. Giving that first icebreaker speech, taking on meeting roles, participating in a speech contest.

Something different happened when I became a club officer, the first leadership level in Toastmasters. I was helping others. I was serving the members of my club to make sure they were receiving value for their membership; to make sure they were recognized for their achievements; to make sure our meetings were high quality.

When I became an Area Director, the magic happened! I was able to make a difference in the clubs I was serving by building relationships and trust. As I said “Yes” to more opportunities to serve District 6 members, I was able to make a difference in clubs and members’ lives throughout the District. I found myself learning and growing as a communicator and leader while serving others. That is true magic!

Being a leader is not about me; it has nothing to do with my title. Being a leader is about the members in our clubs and how I can serve them to be successful; serve them to reach their goals; make a difference in their lives.

Perhaps now is the time for you to be a servant leader. All you need to do is say “YES” to the many opportunities that await you. District 6 Toastmasters needs you to serve! I invite you to experience the magic by going to the District 6 website at Area Director and completing an application. Area Director is the best job in Toastmasters, as you get to work with District leaders and clubs!

Fellow Toastmasters, we have 90 days to finish the year strong! Thank you for renewing your membership and continuing on with your Toastmaster Journey so you can continue to work on becoming a better communicator and leader. Please make sure you have recorded all of your education awards that you have completed. You deserve to be recognized! Complete those projects in Pathways by the end of the year to help yourself reach your goals.

In one month, clubs will begin electing new club officers. Empower yourself to make a difference with the members in your club by stepping up to serve in one of the officer roles. Please don’t forget to record the new officer team in Club Central by June 30, 2021.

So much is going on in District 6 Toastmasters! So many opportunities to learn and grow. Thank you for being a part of District 6 Toastmasters, Working Together – Celebrating Excellence!

This is how Toastmasters lead – as servant leaders. This concept can be applied outside of Toastmasters in our everyday lives as well.

With a servant’s gratitude,
Deb
