A Beginner's Mind
As the new Club Growth Director, I am starting on a new path in my Toastmaster’s journey. There are so many new things to learn about my position, how District 6 runs, and about Toastmasters International. I have been in Toastmasters for 25 years and with my new position, I feel like I am a beginner.
Do you remember being new to Toastmasters? Was there a feeling of excitement? Were you eager to participate and approach Toastmasters with a sense of curiosity? That is how I feel in my new role and that has extended to all my interactions in Toastmasters. I heard a long-time member speak and I listened as if it were the first time I heard him. I felt excited and inspired! I felt like I did when I first joined Toastmasters!
This year we will be launching a new program for District 6 — the Club Ambassador program. This new program encourages Toastmasters members to visit other clubs, learn how they operate and share feedback on their visits. It will benefit both the hosting club and the Ambassador’s Club! We are still working on details including incentives for visiting multiple clubs!
I want to have a successful year as Club Growth Director. If I am successful, the clubs will be successful and that means the members are successful! I cannot succeed alone. I need your help!
I have room on my team and need volunteers. Do you have a passion for clubs? Would you be interested in being a Club Coach, using your passion and experience to assist in revitalizing a low-member club? Would you like to launch a new club? A Club Sponsor helps a new club charter and a Club Mentor assists a new club in its first 6 – 12 months. If these interest you, contact me!
There are also opportunities to make a difference in your club! Mentor a new member, set an example by giving prepared Pathways project speeches and thoughtful evaluations. Take on a special project like leading an Open House or doing a Speechcraft!
Never forget your own goals! Have you met your educational goals? What can you do to continue your growth? What is next for you? By renewing your commitment to your goals or by taking on something new, you can rekindle some of the excitement, eagerness, and curiosity you experienced when you were new to Toastmasters!
Looking forward to a great year! Let’s get excited!
