Important News concerning Area, Division and District Speech Contests for 2021-2022

The Board of Directors of Toastmasters International requested that each District’s DEC (District Executive Committee) vote on the format of speech contests at the Area, Division, and District levels for 2021-2022. There were two choices: 

1. In-person but able to switch to online if warranted, or
2. Online

Here is the request that was considered by District 6:

Each District Executive Committee (DEC) may choose a contest format of either in-person or online. The format selected by the DEC will apply to all Area and Division contests, as well as the District contest. When making this decision, the DEC must take into account local guidelines and restrictions within the District and plan for a contest format that will adhere to these restrictions and best protect the health of members. To ensure that member health and safety remain a priority, Districts may switch from in-person contests to online contests. This is the only change permitted once the DEC has made a decision. Districts cannot switch from online to in-person contests.

District 6 DEC met on 7/24/21 to discuss and vote. It was voted to hold in-person speech contests at the area, division and district levels. Member health and safety will remain a priority. Clubs are free to hold their contest of choice.
