Moments of Truth is a wonderful activity to do with your Club to kick off the year! Wait, wait – what is a “Moments of Truth” some of you might ask?
The Toastmasters’ six “Moments of Truth” are opportunities for your Club to make a positive impression on members and guests, and to grow your Club’s focus and purpose.
The six areas are:
- First impressions
- Membership orientation
- Fellowship, variety, and communication
- Program planning and meeting organization
- Membership strength
- Achievement recognition
Moments of Truth, as part of Toastmasters’ Successful Club Series, offers strategies for being successful in these six areas. It is a tool to help Clubs establish standards for excellence and provide a quality experience for members and guests. When club meetings are carefully planned and organized, everyone learns more and feels better about the time they spend there.
Running Moments of Truth will provide opportunities for Club members to give feedback and ideas, plan fun events, discuss open houses, and find new ways to recognize achievements in the Club. Don’t be nervous – just schedule it like a longer speech in your agenda. I recommend 20 minutes for the first time but go with a time block based on what your Club would like and have a great time with the activity.
I encourage you and your Club to do a Moments of Truth and hear what your club members have to say. I bet they have great ideas!
Finally, be sure to give your Club’s facilitator Pathways credit for running a Moments of Truth with the Club as it is a great advanced speech project.
