Share your Toastmasters Experience
Think back to when you were new to Toastmasters. Were you nervous about speaking, table topics, even giving a timer’s report? Compare your abilities and your confidence level from then to what they are now. You might be relatively new to Toastmasters, or a seasoned member. In any case I am sure that your abilities and confidence have grown!
Think about this growth as your Toastmaster’s story. I often share how I was as a beginning Toastmaster. My first Table Topics response was a whopping 28 seconds in length. I read my first speech word for word, looking down at the page and gripping on to the lectern for dear life! Within a year or so, I was participating in speech contests and serving as a club officer. The confidence and skills that I built in speaking allowed me to perform a story on stage in front of 500 people. The practice that I had in leadership eventually led me to serve the District 6 in many leadership roles, including District Director this year.
Is there someone you know who could use help in their communication and leadership skills? Someone who could really grow through the experience of Toastmasters? I bet there is!
If you feel uncomfortable about sharing Toastmasters with others, don’t let it stop you. Imagine how the practice of sharing Toastmasters will help you in engaging in other uncomfortable conversations.
What about your club? Could your Toastmaster club benefit from more members? I think for most clubs in District 6 the answer is yes.
I encourage you to work on your Toastmasters story and share it far and wide. The more you share, the more you will grow. Your efforts will also positively impact your club as your guests join. Most importantly your efforts will have a positive impact on those people who visit as guests and choose to become members.
I truly believe that Toastmasters helps people transform their lives. In many ways, I am unrecognizable from who I was before Toastmasters. For many of you, I am sure this is true for you as well.
I encourage you to share Toastmasters! It will help you, your club, and the people who join you in Toastmasters transformation!
