For my November/December Speechcraft article, I would like to share Lorna Farmer’s experience from coordinating her first Speechcraft this past August-September.

From August to September 2025, Super Communicators Club hosted a six-week virtual Speechcraft program, welcoming five participants focused on building public speaking skills. The initiative for the club aimed to grow membership and highlight the benefits of Toastmasters to potential members.

Planning began in early spring, led by Lorna Farmer. With support from a two-person committee and club volunteers, the team organized weekly sessions featuring educational speeches on topics such as selecting a speech topic, speech organization, tone, vocal variety, and body language. The team also coordinated roles for evaluations and mentors. A structured agenda and role assignments ensured each meeting was planned and organized, timely, and followed the guidelines for the Speechcraft program. We also utilized internal corporate communications to attract participants.

Super Communicators charged $40.00 to each Speechcraft participant, $20 to cover the new member fee, and $20.00 to cover two months of membership dues. The Speechcraft bundle ($50.00) was also paid for to build the program.

The program delivered valuable learning experiences for both participants, club members, and volunteers. While long-term retention proved challenging, the effort strengthened leadership skills, collaboration, and demonstrated the club’s commitment to growth. “This was a great opportunity to push myself in a way that I have not and also work toward my Distinguished Toastmaster accreditation goal. I am grateful to our club members who supported the initiative,” said Farmer.

Super Communicators extends gratitude to Marvel Kummer, a committed volunteer for this program, as well as JJ Jensen, and Deb Luu, club members on her committee. The success of this program was a significant step forward for membership initiatives at the club level and hopefully will continue to inspire other clubs to utilize the Speechcraft program across District 6.

Thank you to Lorna Farmer for sharing her Speechcraft experience. Please reach out to me if you have a Speechcraft experience to share or have questions about Speechcraft.
