The DCP – In Your Best Interest
“What is the same thing about every vacation you have ever been on?”
If you know (or are old enough to remember), this line is from “Total Recall” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone; the answer the travel agent tells Arnold’s character is ‘you’. (Yes, that movie is from 1990).
So how does that relate to the Distinguished Club Program? Because the DCP is all about YOU. It takes YOU to make it work.
What is the DCP? The Distinguished Club Program that all members should know about, used to help other members, Clubs, and Toastmasters International. The system of points Clubs earn to be Distinguished, but what does THAT mean?
Education. Membership. Training. Administration.
Every member completes projects, gives speeches, provides speech evaluations, and conducts meeting roles. That turns into Club Education points when members complete Levels in their Pathways path.
When Clubs have membership campaigns, contests, and guests join, a DCP point is earned for each time the Club gains four new, dual, or reinstated members. The Club can earn a maximum of two DCP points for membership.
All Clubs should have just had their Officer Election and submitted the new Officer Team list to Toastmasters International by June 30th. There is another DCP point.
A minimum of 8 Membership Dues submitted on time? Another DCP point.
It is how Toastmasters International wants members and Clubs to build, develop, and grow themselves. Education, Membership, Training, Administration.
As the DCP Chair for this year, I have a plan for District 6:
- I will present at the Summer TLI on July 17th to explain the Distinguished Club Program.
- I will ask for a team of individuals to help work with Clubs to reach Distinguished status. (Possibly work with some Clubs that have been Distinguished to brainstorm ideas of what works.)
- I am working on social media postings talking about different aspects of Toastmasters and the DCP.
District 6 will succeed. It will take more than one member or one Club and I know each of us has the ability to do what it takes to succeed in 2021 – 2022. All of these achievements in the DCP help members and the Club. In turn, they help the District and Toastmasters.
Now that you know about the DCP, it can help your Pathways path, your fellow Club members, and all Toastmasters members you encounter. It starts with one member. It starts with YOU!
