Working in Service

Being of service quite simply means helping others.  In Toastmasters meetings, we do this all the time.  We speak, evaluate, and fill other roles.  Doing this creates a positive environment for ourselves and others to grow in our communication and leadership skills.  This is no small thing.  As Toastmasters members build skills and confidence, it improves their personal and professional lives.

Service to our members goes beyond the club meeting.

  • Club officers schedule and arrange meetings, coach new members, and ensure all members benefit from participating in the Toastmasters program.
  • Our Area Directors guide clubs and help alert District leadership to areas where clubs need attention.
  • Club Ambassadors visit clubs and provide feedback to the club and learn best practices they are already doing.
  • Club Coaches make a longer commitment to clubs to help them develop good club practices to attract new members and provide an environment where all members can grow.
  • Volunteers for Speech Contests at the Area, Division, and District level help run a good contest and allow contestants to excel in their communication through the competitive environment.

These are just a few of many available opportunities to help others.  What other ways might you serve your fellow Toastmasters?

One of the great things about Toastmasters is that when we serve others, we also serve ourselves. When we take on a club office, we learn how a club operates and can build skills in organization and leadership. When we take on a District position such as Area Director, we continue to learn more about Toastmasters and increase our development!

There are many opportunities to serve our clubs, District, members and ourselves.  How will you serve?
