In previous requests to present on the wide-ranging subject “Pathways,” I have thought that I could speak for as much as 7 hours. Some audiences have given me as little as 7 minutes. I can now summarize making Pathways work for each member with seven words: aligning goals, preferred topics, and learning style.

Speechcraft Can Help Build Membership
Bill Metrey, DTM
September/October 2024
My Toastmasters Club once boasted over 50 members in its heyday. Over 50 members! A few years after I joined, we were down to 18 members, and not all members showed up each week.
One of the older members suggested something I had never heard of – a Speechcraft program.

Finishing Strong. We hear the words, and yet, do we take the time to truly consider what they mean?
Looking Forwards and Backwards
Dave Schaal, DTM
June 2024
This time of year in Toastmasters reminds me of the Roman God Janus from which we get the name of the month of January. Janus looks both forward to the new year and back at the old year. At this time, we must think both about completing the current year and getting ready for the next year.
Tips To Grow Your Club

The flowers are blooming now and like the flowers, we want our clubs to thrive and attract new members for an ongoing successful club for everyone who participates.
Spotlight on Rochester Chamber Toastmasters Club

We are the business casual Toastmasters experience with a good dose of humor and fun.

The Silver Bullet of Leadership
Colleen Marie Kelly, DTM
April 2024
We live in a day and age where we are bombarded by advertisements for products or services claiming to be the silver bullet for success in business, weight loss, and romance. You name it. The list goes on and on. Some products may provide genuine value. That will be for you to decide.

Setting yourself apart
Colleen Marie Kelly, DTM
March 2024
In Toastmasters, our tagline is where leaders are made.
The question is – Are you becoming the leader you are capable of being?
While there is a plethora of opportunities within Toastmasters to become an effective leader, the making of a leader is a process. A process is not something that happens overnight.
Mid-Year Check-In
Dave Schaal, DTM

Use Club newsletter
Karrie Krear, DTM
March 2024
We live in an era of emails and electronic newsletters. Newsletters are everywhere, published in various forms, by businesses of all kinds. More so now than ever before. Looks like even some Toastmasters clubs have joined the fray and are putting out newsletters of their own.
According to Toastmasters International, “Good newsletters can inspire and motivate members, create energy between meetings, and keep your club connected.”
REST – REFLECT – REFOCUS
Colleen Marie Kelly, DTM
January 2023
Dear District 6 Members,
It is almost hard to believe that we are nearing the end of 2023. Without a doubt, the year has flown by. The Holidays seem to only affirm that realization, and yet, I hope that as the year winds down you will take time to rest, reflect, and refocus.
Resting – physically, mentally, and emotionally – has tremendous benefits.
Physical Rest allows our bodies time to recover, prevents injuries, reduces pain levels, boosts immune system, lowers blood pressure which promotes a healthier heart, and improves overall performance.

The Importance of News Releases
Karrie Krear, DTM
January 2023
News releases play a crucial role in the dissemination of information, especially in today’s fast-paced digital age. They serve several important purposes:
- Public Relations: News releases are an essential tool for public relations. They allow organizations to communicate directly with the media and the public, controlling the narrative and ensuring accurate information is conveyed about events, products, services, or initiatives.
- Information Dissemination: They provide a structured and concise way to distribute information to journalists, bloggers, and other media representatives. This ensures that the right information reaches the right people, increasing the chances of coverage and visibility.

Leaning In: The Cost, Learnings, and Benefits of Leadership
Colleen Marie Kelly, DTM
October 2023
It has often been said that you will get out of life what you put into it. The truth of that statement cannot be overstated and can be applied to every arena of our lives including Toastmasters.
In our Toastmasters Journey, there are an abundance of learning opportunities, and if we will lean into them, we will find a plethora of benefits that will benefit us in every arena of our lives. The key is we must choose to lean into them to experience the full benefits they have to offer.
Serving Our Members
Dave Schaal, DTM
October 2023
How do we best serve our members? I think there are four things that we can focus on that will result in serving our club members.
1. Quality meetings
Does our club environment inspire everyone to do their best? Do our members have the tools they need to fulfil their roles in the meeting? Does every member get the most out of each and every meeting?
Use the Moments of Truth to see how well your club is doing.
Happy Autumn, Toastmasters!

In the efforts of one of my clubs to make our club growth activities more successful, we recently changed the club’s name.

Fellow Toastmasters, it’s that time of year! As year-end is fast approaching on June 30 there is so much to do! Finish strong by electing new club officers, turning in any educational awards you have completed, and adding new members with a personal invite, holding an open house or Speechcraft. Complete the Year!
David Schaal, DTM
June 2023
The end of the Toastmasters Year is coming, and we should all end the year strong! In a time of transition, where you may be stepping down from an officer role and the club DCP plan will reset, it might feel like you might not want to put your best effort in, someone new will pick up the slack in a couple of weeks. We want to avoid that feeling. What serves us and our fellow Toastmasters is for us to keep being the best speaker, mentor, friend, and leader that we can be all the way until the final day of June. That is what I think of when I hear…

As they say, Spring is in the air! Spring is a time of renewal and new life. The birds and the squirrels are active in our yard and the sun calls me to go outside for a walk or just to sit on the bench in our front yard. It is a time of renewal and activity.

April 2023
The decision to join Toastmasters happened by chance. I had been asked to speak in front of a large audience at work and share something meaningful about my experience at a recent trade show. I was very nervous about public speaking. I feared I would either faint on stage or become the target of ridicule from my peers. The speech was to be held in the cafeteria – what if there were flying eggs and tomatoes hurled at me for giving a bad speech?

As I write this, I am in Nashville, Tennessee, for District Officer Training and the International Convention. I learned a lot and met people from around the world who are also servant leaders in Toastmasters.

How many photos do you think are shared every day?
We share roughly around 6.9 billion images per day on various social media platforms. Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, and WhatsApp. We have a habit of curating our most intimate moments and experiences for our friends, families, and communities. What are some of my favorite genres of photographs that I enjoy taking? They can vary from travel, Ariel photography, fine art portraits, journalism, and milestone events. How many of us have used a camera at some point in our lives? Maybe you’re on a trip or a family outing and inspiration hits to take a photo.
